A technical data sheet describes a grade and its typical or specified characteristics, while a certificate of analysis reports the results or status supplied for a particular production lot. Buyers should not treat the documents as substitutes for each other.
Material Properties
- Verify the exact grade, manufacturer, document revision and stated test methods on the TDS.
- Confirm the lot or batch identity and which reported items appear on the COA.
- Separate typical values, specification limits and customer-specific acceptance criteria in the purchase record.
Applications
- Initial qualification of a new resin or supplier
- Incoming review for recurring production lots
- Technical alignment for an alternative grade or changed manufacturing source
Processing Methods
- Request current documents before approving a sample or commercial shipment.
- Match the document identity to the bag label, purchase order and shipment records.
- Use incoming checks and production trials appropriate to the application; documents alone do not validate the finished product.
